Our team entered Tick Tock Escape Games in Overland Park, KS ready to begin a full day of challenges. The “wow factor” of Pyramid Paradox impressed us immediately — we were hooked!
Tick Tock is located in a strip mall surrounded by a great number of restaurants and entertainment options (even indoor skydiving, if you are up for a thrill). The parking lot and lobby give teams ample space to get comfortable, and we were soon whisked away to begin our adventure. Our game master had created and designed the puzzles himself, so he was excited to see us tackle the room.
Pyramid Paradox is a technician’s delight. The lights, music, and special effects create a Hollywood-like experience. One team member said, “this is what all escape rooms should feel like.” The design and structure of the puzzle plot were as strong as the technical aspects. The puzzles were diverse and challenging, with a logical progression that mostly eliminated the need for extra clues.
Although so many aspects of this game were amazing, the introduction and story fell short of our expectations. For our team, it didn’t take away from the fun and adventure, but sadly, it did affect our scoring of the room.
The story issues are easily adjustable, and take little away from the overall experience. This room is best for a group of four or five experienced players; if you have more than that, there are two versions of this room, and you can compete against your friends in an identical experience.
If you think you have seen it all in the escape room business, give Pyramid Paradox a chance to wow your group. You don’t want to miss it!
