While a group of Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays fans were initially uncertain about entering a St. Louis Cardinals themed escape room, we could not have been more pleasantly surprised with how much we enjoyed it!
The downtown location of Mastermind Room Escape is easy to spot thanks to its prominent signage. Finding parking can be a bit difficult, but they give good solutions for that on their website and we would recommend arriving ahead of schedule in order to secure a decent spot. Upon arrival, we were buzzed into the building and followed the clear directions to their lobby, which had plenty of games and activities to keep ourselves occupied while we waited on the rest of our group. We also enjoyed the lockers provided in order to keep our personal belongings secured while we participated in the rooms.
The main objective of this room is to get the field lights turned back on during the 7th inning stretch of a tied Cardinals-Cubs game or else your team won’t be able to finish the game on their home turf. The layout of the experience was really well done. Every prop, piece of furniture, decor, tool, etc. was high quality, fit the style, and looked sharp.
Once the countdown begins, you are immediately thrown into the world of baseball. Each step along the way, there is a clue or reference of the sport and it was nice to be so engaged with the theme. There were a couple of members of our group who did not know much about baseball, but Mastermind thought ahead and made sure no outside knowledge is needed in order to complete the objective. All members of our group were able to solve the puzzles whether they were sports savvy or not.
The amount of teamwork it takes to complete this room is clear from the get-go. We loved how much we had to work together in order to solve the various puzzles. Everyone was consistently working towards our goal of getting the lights turned on and there was rarely a dull moment or anyone standing around with nothing to do.
Our entire group had a great time with this room and everyone felt like they contributed to our win. While it was probably even more enjoyable for the baseball fans among us, the puzzles and the way the room flows definitely has universal appeal.
We completed Cardinals Quest with seven people, but would recommend a group of 4-6 for experienced escapers. This room is perfect for all ages and would be great for a team building exercise; especially a baseball or softball team. If you want to experience a well-developed and engaging escape room, we highly recommend booking a room at Mastermind Room Escape!
