Escape Room Herndon did a fantastic job representing Ravenchase Adventures, a string of affiliated escape room companies with several locations across the Richmond and DC areas. It’s hard to go wrong with Ravenchase. The interior of the building is aesthetically pleasing with numerous easter eggs referencing current and previous rooms adorning the walls. Their start times are deconflicted so as to avoid interaction with other customers (we never came across other gamers during our time), and all COVID protocols and precautions were closely followed and strictly enforced. There is plenty of free parking at the facility’s location, and the ERH team is always professional, supportive, and pleasant to interact with. Our pregame experience was above industry norms at 9.
Everything about this location is high quality, which is a hallmark of the Ravenchase Adventures brand. The props in the room worked without a hitch, and everything was sturdy, professionally done, and clean, including a fully (simulated) operational cannon! Room quality came in well above industry norm at a 9.0.
The puzzles in Maritime Mutiny were some of the best we’ve seen. They flowed logically, fit in perfectly with the story line, and most importantly were fun to solve. As an added bonus, there were four extra puzzles at the end which were optional and not required to successfully escape the room. If you’re up for a significant challenge, you can attempt the final four bonus puzzles with whatever time you have remaining from the rest of the room (we were only able to solve two of the four with 24 minutes remaining). Be ready to work together as a team… it will be required to successfully escape this ship. We rated the puzzle quality a 9.0.
Maritime Mutiny places you onboard the pirate Ravenbeard’s ship with the mission to break into his quarters and recover your share of the plunder. With authentic creaky floors, virtual portholes looking out onto the ocean, and the old school canon, we wouldn’t have been surprised if Ravenbeard himself had shown up at some point in the room. We’ve done hundreds of rooms, and Maritime Mutiny was one of the most immersive that we’ve seen. We gave it a 9.5!
We did four amazing rooms in the greater DC area over the weekend, and Maritime Mutiny narrowly edged out the others as our favorite. As a measure of the ultimate quality of an escape room (fun), our standard metric is ‘How excited are we to come back and how soon?’. This was the first time we’d ever played back to back rooms, so our metric was answered with extremely excited and immediately! Fun was scored as a 9.0 giving Maritime Mutiny an overall score of 9.1!
