Escape Room Arlington did a fantastic job representing Ravenchase Adventures, a string of loosely affiliated escape room companies in Richmond and the greater DC area. We had high expectations based on previous experiences, and ERA did not disappoint. The interior of the building is aesthetically pleasing with numerous easter eggs referencing current and previous rooms adorning the walls. Their start times are deconflicted so as to avoid interaction with other customers (we never came across other gamers during our time), and all COVID protocols and precautions were closely followed and strictly enforced. There is a reasonably priced parking garage on the same block in case street parking is not available during your game. Our pregame experience was above industry norms at 7.5.

Everything about this location is high quality, which is a hallmark of the Ravenchase Adventures brand. Upon entry, you’re immediately transported back into the world (specifically the library) of Edgar Allen Poe. The props in the room worked without a hitch, and everything was sturdy, professionally done, and clean. We rated the overall room quality at a solid 8.0.

Poe’s chamber contained some truly outstanding puzzles that were challenging yet logical, solvable, and tied in extremely well with the storyline. We only needed one hint to get out and were kicking ourselves for overthinking it. We rated the puzzle quality an 8.5.

The high quality of the room and well tied-in puzzles made for a wonderfully immersive experience. As with any good escape room, no previous knowledge is required for either success or enjoyment; however, fans of the late, great poet in particular will enjoy being fully immersed into his world. The only constructive criticism for the immersion was the number of combination locks, which somewhat detracted from an otherwise fantastic immersive experience. We rated it an 8.5.

We had a great time escaping Poe’s Chamber, so much so that we’re already planning our next trip back to DC to try out their other two rooms. We rated it an 8 for fun giving it an overall score of 8.1. We highly recommend this room to escape room enthusiasts of all types.

Final Verdict:

8.1/10
