Outopia is located on the third floor of ALEXA shopping center at the iconic Alexanderplatz, Berlin, and is therefore easy to reach via public transportation (U-Bahn, S-Bahn, busses, Tram). In Outopia’s foyer they have lockers for your bags and then you can get seated in their waiting room which is cozy but also a bit cramped. You can help yourself to some water and another really nice thing about the waiting room is that its door can be closed for the briefing before you enter the escape room. Outopia’s staff was super friendly and explained everything we needed to know about the room in great detail.

The Art of Theft lets you and your group assume the role of art thieves that have exactly one hour to steal a valuable art piece from a museum before the guards get back to their posts. Your secret accomplice has already cased the museum and left you some clues on how to get that art piece out of the venue. The art theme is very well implemented in this room, and it really does feel like being in a museum of modern art. There are various pictures on the walls as well as installations of art pieces. The components are of high quality and in good shape and include some very nice high-tech props. The setup and background story of the room generate a very immersive feeling while the guards’ absence from their posts for exactly one hour creates a natural time frame.

The puzzles were carried out with great attention to detail and varied in style and difficulty. All puzzles were connected to the art theme and most of them required a decisive action in order to solve them. At some points there wasn’t enough to do for four people though. Overall, the puzzles were a little bit on the easy side and the ending was a little abrupt, but we still enjoyed the experience.

Assuming the roles of art thieves was very enjoyable to us. This room lets you dive right into the art world and you get to play with some fun mechanisms. We would recommend this room for beginners and/or to play with just two to three people to get the most out of this room.

Final Verdict:

7.4/10
