Escape the House is a newcomer to the Mississauga Escape Room scene. Opened in November of 2015, they are located in a business plaza off of Dixie Rd. Upon entering, the lobby is smaller and boasts a foosball table. The owners did state that they are planning to upgrade the lobby for a more spacious lounging area.
The pre-room experience started in the lobby as we were blindfolded and led into the room. We were then told to keep our blindfolds on while the background story was narrated. I enjoyed the introduction as I felt being blindfolded helped with the immersion of the experience. Instead of entering the room and automatically scanning for puzzles and locks, we were able to fully concentrate on the story before trying to escape.
The room itself felt similar to the many other “bedroom” style escape rooms with a bed and basic furniture. Now for the puzzles… this room had a great variety of puzzles. Although the room itself was mainly lockboxes, the puzzles offered a wide range of challenges. This would be a great room for intermediate enthusiasts who have had some exposure but would like to experience a good selection of challenging yet solvable puzzles. The only downside of the room was the immersion aspect. Certain things felt disconnected from the story and halfway through the room, we forgot the purpose of why we were there and what we were trying to escape from. Otherwise, for a smaller and non-technical room, The Last Stop Motel offered a good challenge and was enjoyable.
