You’ve walked down a dark alley leading you to a door that seems normal enough until… SLAM! Trapped inside a tight space with a horrible sense of dread you may very well be trapped here forever! Move quickly! Someone has obviously trapped you inside with the intention of coming to claim their prize! Narrow Escape in Oakville proudly brings you Claustrophobia — an escape room designed for 2-3 people which pits your mind against a serial killer who starts this scenario with the upper hand on you. Did we walk out of this situation with the evidence needed for a great time, or did we wish somebody would come capture us again and take us away? Read on to find out…

The Pre-Room and Customer Service in Claustrophobia (and through all of the rooms at Narrow Escape) is well done. The staff are friendly, attentive, and definitely focused on a positive customer experience. The location is easy to find with visible signage and plenty of parking. Narrow Escape’s lobby is spacious, well light, and has a nice area for board game lovers to come and play a game before or after their room. Refreshments and snacks are also available. The pre-room introduction video isn’t going to win any academy awards, but it’s fun to watch. All in all a very strong start!

The room quality is a bit of a mixed bag here, but overall quite strong. The room construction and authentic props/furniture definitely made us smile. At the same time there seemed to be one section of the room that felt unfinished, and could use a slight bit of touching up. Having said that, most people will be impressed by the immersive aspects of how solid this room was built and how it fostered an immersive feel which seems to be a company strength for Narrow Escape. Do immersive components become noticeable in the game play itself? Yes! It was very rare we felt ourselves being disconnected from our surroundings or the story which always makes us excited. A couple of the puzzles did get a bit overly complicated and therefore pulled us out of the room’s flow, but for the most part there was no question in our minds that immersion, supported by good room design, was the highlight of the experience!

The puzzles were fairly average with the standard selection of puzzle types to work through. There were a couple times we needed to presume certain information and/or observations in order for things to work properly, but aside from that we didn’t take notice of the puzzles, good or bad.

Was it fun, and would we recommend this room to people? Yes! Who would most likely enjoy this room? Pretty much anyone from beginners to experienced players. It might be handy to have somebody who’s seen some of these types of puzzles before in case you need to draw upon previous knowledge of how things typically work in an escape room. People who like an immersive story based experience will also enjoy this room, but take our advice on this one and make sure you only book this room for 2-3 people as there will be moments you’re confined to tight spaces.

I went and did this room with my wife and had a great time! As you said the staff was fantastic and the immersive qualities kept you in the story line. I loved the room the puzzles were easy enough for a newcomer but difficult enough for us who are a little more experienced as well. All in all a well done room with just enough creep factor to keep you on edge!
