You have the right to remain silent!”…is what the cops would have said if they had caught our group of robbers in Unlocked Ottawa’s Krylon Crew room. Unlocked Ottawa occupies the second floor of a building with ample parking, located in Kanata in the west end of Ottawa. With a large, bright lobby and a well-stocked board game lounge, Unlocked does a great job of making customers feel welcome.

We were excited to do our first room here since it sets itself apart by being “Ottawa’s only competitive escape room” and we are a very competitive group. After receiving our instructions and putting on some costumes, we were set to play a little game of cops and robbers, escape room style!

The room itself was quite small, but they used the space very efficiently and it was decorated beautifully according to the story. While the setup of the room adds a unique twist that promotes the competitive aspect of experience, we also felt that it might take away from some of the puzzle solving had we not played fairly. You are, however, competing with people in your group, so maybe some devious strategies are called for, depending on how badly you want to beat your friends. They also incorporate an interesting hint mechanism that may have you thinking twice about making that call for help.

It was exciting to do a room that offers something different and does so in an entertaining manner with some challenging puzzles. Your observation skills will be put to the test as there is a lot to look for (and a lot to look at) and you may need a hint since the direction of the puzzles are sometimes not intuitive, but overall it is great for night out with friends…or enemies…
