One of my team members is a huge Doctor Who fan, so we chose Lost in Time as our first room at Mastermind Escape Games. The team is on a mission to protect the world and help the future look bright. Our gamemaster stayed in character as she reviewed the rules, and then we watched a video introducing us to the story.

Although the signage outside was minimal, and the entrance was a little tricky to find, once we entered the lobby the team was ready for a day of fun. The lobby at Mastermind was a strength; puzzles were set up for us to learn how to use different styles of locks, and everything was clean and well kept.

We appreciated that Mastermind gives you a tablet so that you can be responsible for your own clues. Each puzzle or area has an opportunity for you to receive help via the tablet without feeling dumb about asking for a clue. Although our team refused to take advantage of the clues, it is a clever system. I assumed that meant we were on our own, but a staff member kept track of our every move, and informed us if we had the right codes but entered them incorrectly.

Lost in Time was creative and inventive, and the decor of the rooms fully pulled us into the story. The puzzles were entertaining, they kept us busy, and the level of difficulty was varied. Our group thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Overall, this is a great room for two or three experienced players, or a larger group if it is their first escape room. The only negative of my group’s experience was that we completed the room in thirty minutes with no clues. This could lead to a group feeling they weren’t challenged sufficiently. (But do keep in mind, this is the easiest room at Mastermind.)

If you are in the Kansas City area you may not have heard of Mastermind Escape Games yet, but it’s worth the visit. And Lost in Time would be a fantastic place to start, especially if the time travel theme intrigues you!

Final Verdict:

7.5/10
