Komnata Quest Manhattan is located near Wall Street and easily reached via subway (2 and 3 train at Wall Street as well as J and Z train at Broad Street). When we arrived at Komnata Quest we found ourselves in an entrance room with two seating areas, nice decorations and dimmed lights. This atmosphere already set us in the mood for what was to follow in the escape room itself. If you are a person who prefers to read while waiting for the rest of your group to arrive the dim lights could be an issue though. We really appreciated that we could lock our belongings in a big wooden crate. This way we didn’t need to drag them with us into the escape room, but could also rest assured that our stuff was stored safely.

Cursed is set in a house where a family with seven girls once lived. The following story is introduced by one of the staff members: One day, the youngest girl was found dead and the following day her six remaining sisters were found dead, too. You are send into this haunted house to find out what happened to these seven sisters.

Komnata Quest paid huge attention to detail in this room. There was a lot of technology involved like audio elements and things that moved. Also, the props were high quality and, like most of the furniture, fit the theme of the room perfectly. The story is carried out very well and is definitely the strong suit of this room. All this made us feel highly immersed while playing this room. We actually felt haunted and were genuinely scared at times and there was a creepy atmosphere in the room the whole time. Even if you are easily scared, this room is enjoyable; some of our team members would freeze and start screaming while others just enjoyed the atmosphere.

As mentioned earlier, the story of the seven girls is the focus of attention in this room. There aren’t that many puzzles, but they are all linked to finding out what happened in this house. The puzzles were of decent quality, but more on the more simple side compared to other escape rooms. We still enjoyed the puzzles as they moved the story along.

In spite of initial doubts about this room being a horror escape room we really enjoyed this room very much. It was scary at times, but definitely good scary. The set-up of the room as well as its story ensure a great overall experience. We’d highly recommend this room for everyone who is brave enough to face this haunted house.

Final Verdict:

7.3/10
