Escape Reality is located in the city of Chicago with relatively easy parking through Spot Hero or parking garages. There is great signage, and you can look for heads in the window, you’ll find it! The staff here were very welcoming and friendly, and made us feel quite comfortable. There were plenty of tables, chairs, and games to play, as well as a variety of refreshments available. There was music playing in the briefing room, which made us feel immersed instantly, and the pre-room speech was personalized based on the group playing, we loved that! We were explained the different locks and how to use the clue system (tablet), we were also told that if we used this clue system it would take 5 minutes off our time. We had only seen this type of clue system in one other escape room, it’s not our favorite. We were also told that if didn’t want to use the tablet clue system we could ask the GM to come in the room to help us. We didn’t use either of these tools during this room experience.
Walking into the room, we thought it was scary, authentic, and great quality. There was also music playing that got us into the scene of the room, we were so excited to get started! As began the room, we realized we knew exactly what to do without hesitation. We loved the mechanics of the room, and the flow, but found ourselves wanting more of a challenge. This could be our experience but it could also be the ease of the puzzles. We found this room perfect for beginners. As we moved through the room, the scare factor decreased and we focused only on the tasks-at-hand. A little extra scare and higher puzzle difficulty would have been a bonus! Each room had a purpose, they were creative and we especially enjoyed the “surprise” in the middle of game play!
Overall, we really enjoyed this room! We felt like it had great flow and stuck to the theme for the most part. We found ourselves wanting more in terms of scare-factor, but still felt immersed in the theme.
