Mastermind, located in St. Charles, Missouri, was easy to find and had plenty of parking.  Upon entering, there were lockers for our belongings, books, games and puzzles to do, and lots of comfy seating.  In addition, the staff member working was quite friendly and personable.  We were briefed on our backstory and were excited to get started!

The first thing we noticed upon entering was that everything was wood! We loved the authentic feeling of being in a “shed.”  The way they incorporated “windows” and sound effects was impressive and creative, and it really helped us to feel immersed in the room.  Throughout the room, these owners proved they had great attention to detail throughout, and it was not overlooked!  We found ourselves excited and surprised throughout, which is the feeling we hope for during each room we play.  When we played, there were exposed wires at one point that we weren’t sure if we should touch (some rooms have you use wires in puzzles), they are not part of the game, so hopefully these have been put away (could be dangerous for younger kids).  Overall, however, we were impressed with the quality of this room and really felt like if we walked out the door we would be outside, not in a building in a strip center!

The puzzle design was very creative, and they used puzzles and locks that made sense for the storyline and the fact that we were in a shed.  We loved how we got form one area of the room to the next, it was such a fun surprise that really fit the story!  There were a variety of types of puzzles, and enough for everyone to work on, which is great for making sure everyone will have a great time.  Overall, we thought these puzzles were creative, fit the story, and we loved how interactive they were.

So did we have fun?  Yes!  Our group had so much fun exploring and getting to know this room.  We felt excited, nervous, and couldn’t wait to keep the story going throughout our experience.  We uncovered pieces of the story as we made our way through the room, and from beginning to end there was a full story (that doesn’t always happen).  We were impressed and left feeling very excited about this room!  We would recommend this room to almost everyone, except for young kids—it might be a bit too scary for them.

Final Verdict:

8.0/10
