Located in Oak Park, Illinois, you will find Escape Factor.  Their location is great—it’s easy to get to driving from the suburbs, as well as taking public transit from the city.  There are places to grab a bite to eat or some coffee, and street parking is generally easy to find.  Their lobby is clean and has seating, as well as some tabletop games and puzzles while you wait to get started.  They also have lockers and a storage area for your bags or personal items.  Additionally, the owners are wonderful!  They were friendly, relatable, and made us feel incredibly welcome in their business.

This room starts off with an exciting introduction and keeps that momentum for the rest of gameplay.  This is a game show theme, however, it is not necessarily just “playing on a game show,” it’s so much more fun than that!  This room was made of high-quality materials that fit an authentic game show set.  There were a lot of fun nods to game shows of the past, and the room had a bright, almost 70s feel to it.  We felt immersed with the set, music, and style of games, however, sometimes it just felt like we were playing rather than completing our objective.  With that being said, we did have a clear objective that fit the theme well.  Overall, the puzzle design led to easy immersion that lasted throughout the game.

This room had tons of puzzles with varying styles.  All of the puzzles had a clear and logical way to solve them, which helped the puzzle flow in the entire room.  These puzzles were all very interactive and many were unique.  Even the puzzles that were less unique were used in a creative and different way.  We loved the momentum we gained after solving each puzzle and getting closer to our objective.  We really felt a sense of accomplishment throughout the game, not just once we finished the room.  Also, many puzzles can be solved independently, so your team could choose to work together or split up, depending on the size of the group.

Was it fun?  Yes!  One of our team members actually squealed with excitement at one point in the room.  This room is creative, rewarding, and so enjoyable.  We feel like it would lend itself to groups both large and small, new and veteran, old and young—Escape Factor is great about having rooms that work for everyone.  We loved this game show room, and found ourselves clapping for each other throughout, as if we were really on a game show; it was a very positive experience.

Final Verdict:

8.4/10
