Located in Oak Park, Illinois, you will find Escape Factor.  Their location is great—it’s easy to get to driving from the suburbs, as well as taking public transit from the city.  There are places to grab a bite to eat or some coffee, and street parking is generally easy to find.  Their lobby is clean and has seating, as well as some tabletop games and puzzles while you wait to get started.  They also have lockers and a storage area for your bags or personal items.  Additionally, the owners are wonderful!  They were friendly, relatable, and made us feel incredibly welcome in their business.

The first room we did was The Treehouse Raid at Fort Knocks.  The premise of this room is that a “neighborhood punk” stole your valuables, so while he’s out you need to break into his treehouse to get them back.  We want to reiterate that this is a treehouse themed room, and that, in itself, is unique from what we’ve seen.  So, you might be wondering, what’s the room quality like of this “treehouse”?  We’re here to tell you, it was beyond our expectations.  The materials that were used, and the way in which they were used, fit the theme perfectly, while not cutting corners on quality.  From signs, to decor, to trinkets, to the actual “tree”—this was incredible!  The quality of the room easily lends itself to immersion.  We truly felt like we were in an authentic treehouse, if not for the fact that we remembered walking through a first-floor door to get there.  There was another detail of this room that helped us feel immersed and pressured to get our valuables and escape, however, telling you would ruin the fun, so you’ll have to wait and see for yourself…

Okay, so we feel like we’re in a real treehouse and reverted back to childhood fun and games, but how were the actual puzzles?  After well over one hundred rooms, we’re here to say that this room had not one, but several puzzles we have never seen used in these ways.  There are plenty of different types of puzzles, and so much interactivity.  There are puzzles that require teamwork, puzzles that can be completed independently, and many in-between.  The puzzles were logical to solve without just giving a straight answer and they fit the theme wonderfully.  Our team was immersed, communicating, and loved the way this room brought us back to childhood.

If you’ve read this far, you know we would recommend this room!  Newer players will be able to solve it based on the logical puzzle flow while veterans will appreciate the uniqueness and authenticity of the set, children will likely feel at home in this room, while older individuals will be brought back to childhood.  We truly believe this is a room for everyone.

Final Verdict:

8.3/10
