In our never ending quest to visit all of the GTA’s escape room companies, the ERA team visited iEscaped. They were amongst the first companies on the scene in Toronto, which gave them a bit of a leg up in how many people talked about their rooms.
So does being early on the scene mean being best? In this case not really. Defuse is a traditional single room escape with a bunch of puzzles pasted on top of a theme. Most of the puzzles seemed out of place with the theme (creating low immersion), and there wasn’t much of a story revealed throughout the experience. On the plus side this room did contain a few unique features that weren’t being used in other companies at the time it came out (audio clues and an eerily realistic bomb). If this room could go back in time to when escape rooms were new in Toronto, it would surely be a hit. Sadly the marketplace has moved on and this room would now seem a bit outdated for most moderate to experienced players. Newcomers to escape rooms may still enjoy the experience, but for the most part there are better choices in the marketplace.
As always, happy escaping!

crappy experience…boring and not challenging..avoid at all costs..
Hi Tony. This was one of the Toronto ERA team’s earlier reviews and most likely would score lower now that the industry has rapidly advanced in quality of experience, technology, and design… None the less, we still feel there were a few redeeming parts to the room even if we didn’t enjoy it too much overall. It’s been hard for first generation escape room companies in Toronto (and across North America) who came out with decent rooms at the time of their release only to find themselves suddenly lagging behind all the industry advancement. The marketplace is now fairly competitive for customer experience so we completely understand people not wanting to try some of these older design rooms.
