Fox in a Box is located in Chicago, Illinois, with parking garages nearby. In addition, there are several nearby restaurants and other things to do. The building was easy to find, but more signs leading in would be helpful in finding which suite was Fox in a Box. The lobby is large and has plenty of seating, refreshments, games, large lockers where you can charge your phones (this is the first room to have done that!), and memorabilia to purchase if desired. In addition, if you do all four rooms, Fox in a Box will give you a free tee shirt! Before going into our room, we heard the short informational briefing about how their rooms work, the rules, and the hint system. We couldn’t wait to start!

We entered our room where it was quite dark, and a video began to play. The video briefed us on our mission and really allowed us to get immersed into the story. The ambiance of the set was spot on, it looked just like we pictured a bank office looking! The lighting, sound, and set made us feel like we were really part of the story. The set was of good quality, with only some wear and tear. Most of the puzzles fit well into the theme, which we always love to see.

The puzzles themselves were varied in type (e.g., search-and-find, word-based, numbers-based, physical) which allowed all members of our group to enjoy the puzzles. We were able to work on different puzzles simultaneously, but were excited that we had to work together for some of them. In addition, there was a surprise guest during the room that, for us, made this room so much more immersive and fun.

Overall, this room had a logical progression and flow to it. We felt challenged (in a good way), felt the pressure of the clock to get out, and were excited as we worked our way through the puzzles. This room would be great for outside-the-box thinkers, moderately experienced players (however, beginners would have fun, too), and groups of any size!

Final Verdict:

8.6/10
