We all remember it (at least those of us age twenty-five and up). We worried, we wondered and we hoped. When the exact moment that Y2K arrived, our eyes darted all directions to see if anything would happen, then… Nothing! We all went on with our normal lives, and Y2K was a huge let-down a year in the making.

Fortunately for Breakout Lawrence (and you), their Y2K experience will not let you down! We had two teams participate in this room, and both groups were experiencing Breakout Lawrence for the first time. We parked outside, payed the meter (though there is free parking if you know where to find it), and walked the bustling main street of Lawrence. Everything in Lawrence happens here, except for the basketball games at KU. And just like those basketball fans, you will leave Lawrence smiling if you play the Y2K room.

Our friendly and helpful host set the scene and we entered the room prepared for a New Year’s Eve bash, circa 1999. A video began our experience, and we were off and running. The feel of the 90’s was unmistakable, and the music was enjoyable for all. The puzzles were well designed, and we solved them without any jumps in logic. It should be played by 2-4 experts or 4-6 beginners for the best experience. Everyone had a great time, and both teams left with big smiles… And a desire to do another room immediately.

Final Verdict: If you go to Breakout Lawrence… and you feel like doing more than one room, do Y2K first, because it will be put a smile on your face and prepare you for a greater challenge later (see the review of Civil War).

Final Verdict:

7.5/10
