You will find The Escape Game in the heart of River North in Chicago, surrounded by restaurants, shops, and easy-to-find (paid) parking garages.  Upon entering the building, there was a small lobby with plenty of seating, lots of merchandise for sale, and a friendly and helpful employee who was happy to greet us and check us in.  In addition, despite having technical issues, we didn’t notice that the online check-in system was down or that there were no slideshows playing on the televisions; these would have been cool additions, but they weren’t necessary for a smooth and positive pre-room experience.

After signing our waivers, we were taken back to our escape room where a video played to tell us our mission and help us to feel immersed into the story.  The pre-room briefing was short, to the point, and well-done.  This company found a way to intermix their safety briefing and mission video into one easy to understand and exciting video.

The first thing we noticed when we entered the room was the movie-quality set, with spot-on details.  We immediately split up to tackle the many challenging tasks at hand.  As we moved through the room, we continued to be surprised by the quality and work put into the set.  The room had a mixture of high-tech and more rustic aspects that balanced nicely in this experience.

In the first part of the room, there was a clear objective and we knew what we needed to work on.  However, this direction was somewhat lost in the second part of the room.  One aspect of the puzzles that we enjoyed immensely was the use of our senses.  The puzzles in this room were quite interactive, and some were mechanisms we have not used in previous escape rooms.  The puzzles were varied in difficulty, type, and the amount of teamwork necessary to complete them.  Overall, our team was challenged and excited throughout this room and had a great time.  We would recommend this room to groups of players who have a little experience and appreciate a phenomenal set.

**If you are not in the Chicagoland area, The Escape Game has locations in 6 other cities throughout the United States.

Final Verdict:

8.5/10
