Escape Room LA is at it again. Their previous rooms have a great reputation for clever, difficult puzzles that often make the “best rooms ever” list of many friends (in particular, the intellectual workout of The Alchemist, or the amazing immersion of The Pyramid).

With their new room, Atlantis, their exceptional reputation continues.

We start in a crazy professor’s office, finding ways to activate a portal opening-teleportation-time-machine (of sorts) that will bring us into the lost underwater kingdom. The goal? Solve ancient puzzles to retrieve an important object. The story doesn’t get much deeper than that, which is fine, because the immersion is 100% and the overall experience is of the highest craftsmanship.

The decoration shows immense attention to detail, with a generous display of cool visuals that set the mood of glorious underwater chambers. Dilapidated regal pillars, animated ambient lights and large scale props (many of which are interactive) cover this completely designed multi-chambered experience.

The high production value isn’t just for looks – it is completely integrated into the clever and challenging puzzles which always feel logical and fair, despite their varying difficulty level.

There are a handful of technical gimmicks, all of which are fun surprises and all of which feel expertly embedded in a logical flow, a rare balance that never feels like a gag for a gag’s sake.

Teamwork is required and rewarding for a great number of tasks, many of which we have never seen before in an escape room and this felt very satisfying to accomplish.

Upon completion, we felt excited and impressed, which was no surprise as all of Esc Room LA’s experiences are absolutely worth doing.

This isn’t their hardest room, but it’s a great challenge with impressive originality and a great deal of care. If you want a slightly above average difficulty (they claim it’s a 7/10 challenge) in an absolutely above-average room, then this is for you.
