A friend of ours, an intelligent software engineer named Jon, was in deep trouble. After being accused of a massive digital attack on the government, he went missing. Knowing that Jon could never have done anything like this, we rummaged his studio- trying to find something that would clear his name. While there, we were confronted by ADA, Jon’s A.I. Digital Assistant. Was she there to help us, or would we be sabotaged?

Though Exit Game was not in any particularly special location, we were impressed by their huge lobby with plenty of comfortable seating, snacks, lockers, and even board games which you can play while you wait! We were excited to begin our game, and A.I. proved to be a very entertaining expedition.

The introduction to the game brought us fully into the scenario (and was oddly one of my favorite parts). We were happy to see that both the game and the setting supported this very modern tech themed story which added to its immersive qualities. Some of the necessary components to the puzzles we did find needed a bit of minor maintenance (plugs/wires). With all that technology in one room, it was a relief to find that there was nothing that was essentially broken or malfunctioning.

The puzzles themselves had a good amount of variety. I appreciated the parts where multiple people had to work together to solve something. We did end up needing clues for many of the puzzles, and I was really not a fan of this system. Every time you require help, the game master must actually come into the room. You must then explain where you are stuck, and then they will give you the hint and leave. It really pulled us out of the game, and unfortunately, took away from the experience. Perhaps in the future they will consider using another format for helping players.

Overall, we appreciated the consistency of the puzzles and story. When booking this game, leave the kids at home, and make sure to bring some tech-literate friends to help! New players may find this game difficult, but (probably with some clues) will still enjoy their experience. Experienced players will find this to be a worthy adventure and will hopefully enjoy the game/story aspects as much as I did.
