Located in a popular mall in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, you’ll find 60 to Escape.  Their location is easy to find, surrounded by many shops to visit, and it’s a quick walk to many food and ice cream choices – who doesn’t get hungry while escaping?  While the lobby itself was minimal, only having 4 chairs and not a whole lot to do, what lacks in the lobby is more than made up for in the escape rooms themselves! We were greeted by a few employees as we walked in, and we instantly felt welcomed and excited to begin our adventure.  The girls we talked to were personable and friendly, the customer service was outstanding.  We were also able to meet the owner who was down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and genuinely excited about each of his rooms for different reasons.  We couldn’t wait to get started.

The adventure begins with a short, interesting, and well-made video that tells you important information about the game, and more importantly, it draws you into the theme with a little backstory.  From the very first second, we truly felt as though we were in the story.  The set was captivating and was beyond our expectations.  This company clearly put their time and effort into making a captivating and exciting set, with such great attention to detail.  Blast From the Past gave us an opportunity to explore, use tools and technology in a way we hadn’t before, and have a new sense of excitement over and over within the adventure.  The ambience was that of an arcade and fit the theme wonderfully; with that being said, there was loud music throughout the room which most of us tolerated just fine, but some of us thought was a distraction.  They have puzzles of vast variety in terms of how they work, the type of puzzle, and the difficulty of puzzles.  Some puzzles we got right away, while others took us several minutes (and several brains) to figure out! We loved that this room required we communicate and work together, but there was also something for everyone to do.

So, was it fun? Absolutely! We had a blast (pun intended, of course)!  We felt like we were truly part of the story and remained engaged and excited throughout the room.  We thought to ourselves that if we hadn’t escaped, we still would have loved our time.  Some of us were even dancing at one point! This is a top-notch company and a wonderful escape room; we were pleasantly surprised by their great use of space.  We truly felt as if we were in the story, not in a mall outside of Chicago.

Final Verdict:

9.2/10
