Horror Escapes LA is located in North Hollywood. As with most escape rooms, make sure you and your group arrive 15 minutes early. There is plenty of street parking, so there is no need to worry about that. The area does look pretty sketchy so if you think you’re in the wrong place, you’re probably there. That initial sense of unease transitions perfectly into the atmosphere of the rooms. It has “Horror” in its name for a reason. However, for those who are easily spooked, don’t worry! It’s very doable. You won’t get nightmares… Probably.

The owners are accommodating and genuinely care about each group of people that come to play. If you’d like a bottle of water or a comic book, they are available to purchase for $1. They don’t have lockers, but you could hang your bag on coat hangers. Being so new to the neighborhood, they are still in the process of upgrading to lockers and decorating their lobby and briefing rooms appropriately with the circus theme.

“Trapped” is the second chapter in the series, and is the easier of the two rooms currently open. Here’s the story: you have been captured by the twisted Ringmaster and have 50 minutes to find a way to escape his holding area by discovering other sideshow performers.

The puzzles all fit in with the storyline which really adds to the experience. The room overall is for beginners and has a great combination of more or less easy puzzles. The variation is also pretty good. Some of them involve logic, use of more than sense of sight, math, and fun collaborative skills. This is a great beginner’s room if you have just started exploring escape rooms.

This second chapter has multiple rooms that are visually well decorated and brings you into the atmosphere of the story. You won’t get too scared in this room, at least not enough to get too distracted from looking for clues.

After your escape from the room you can take great pictures in front of their logo on the wall, and you can utilize the props and costumes from the actual room. The overall experience was a lot of fun and the hospitality of the owners made the experience even better. We would recommend coming here for birthdays or other events since they have multiple rooms and you can play them simultaneously. We are excited to play their next chapter, which should be open next month.

Final Verdict:

7.8/10
