Located in a popular mall in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, you’ll find 60 to Escape.  Their location is easy to find, surrounded by many shops to visit, and it’s a quick walk to many food and ice cream choices – who doesn’t get hungry while escaping? We were greeted by the owner and another employee as we walked in, and we instantly felt welcomed and excited to begin our adventure.  The lobby is large with lots of unique seating, tons of puzzles and games, a selfie station, and amazing new merchandise!  In addition, they added on a party/meeting room for big groups or corporate groups.  We’re never disappointed by this company, so we were thrilled to begin.

The introduction to the Hidden Temple room was part of the story itself, and it had us immersed before we even technically began.  As we did with Mystery Manor, we again tip our hats to Stephen and Stevie for this room quality.  The room was built of “stone” walls (they used wood instead of Styrofoam, which was noticed and appreciated).  The props were well-researched, custom-made, and hand carved and painted.  The attention to detail cannot be overstated; we found one cord (because we were looking) and it was wrapped to look like a vine.  Nothing in this room felt out of place, no shortcuts were taken.  We were blown away by the construction and build of this room.

Because of the set quality, it was easy to feel immersed in the story.  There was a guided story as you went through the room, and we felt a real sense of “danger” throughout.  It was easy to feel creeped out during a few parts because the set and sound effects were so realistic.  We felt like there was a clear objective and the puzzles fit the theme, which allowed us to stay in immersion throughout.  If you’re looking for a room that has a story from beginning to end, some twists and turns throughout the story, and you want to feel completely immersed—Hidden Temple is the room for you!

The puzzles in this room were connected to the theme, had an easy-to-follow flow, and provided a great challenge without frustration.  There were a variety of puzzles in terms of type and difficulty, some required teamwork, and the puzzles lent themselves to finding out more about the story.  The puzzles felt creative, well thought out, and we loved the nod to several shows that brought us back to childhood.

I’d ask if you think we had fun, but I think it’s pretty clear that we did!  60 to Escape never disappoints with their rooms.  They raise the bar with each new build, and we’re thrilled they invited us back.  This room was one of the most exciting rooms and we had fun from beginning to end.  This room was creative, had such great detail, and had us gushing about how much we loved it.  We think this would be great for groups big and small, beginners and veterans, and definitely for those that appreciate a great set design.

Final Verdict:

9.6/10
